   Proposal Description:
   Early-onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD) is thought to present with a unique neurocognitive profile from late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD). It is suggested that the less common EOAD has been shown to be characterized by greater deficits in the domains of executive functioning and visuoconstructional abilities compared with LOAD. Both conditions present with memory impairments, however, it is suspected that EOAD is associated with less severe semantic memory deficits and patients benefit from recognition paradigms, suggesting a retrieval based memory impairment. There has been conflicting evidence regarding the presence of visuospatial and language deficits in EOAD. The specific aims of the present study are as follows: (1) to determine if significant differences exist between the neuropsychological profile of patients with EOAD and with demographically matched (gender, education, race, etc.) patients with LOAD (2) to determine if visuospatial and language deficits are present in this sample of patients with EOAD and (3) to determine if there is a difference in subjective memory complaints in patients with EOAD and patients with LOAD. (4) To determine if their exists unique physical, psychiatric, or functional sequelae in EOAD as compared to LOAD.
